Humming Bird-Nasca Lines

This is The Humming Bird. The figures below represent The Parrot.

These phots were taken from a Piper Cub [6 passenger] at about 7,000 feet, thus photos are not that great, as it was a "point and shoot" miminal lens camera. Sorry!

I have others, but will not bore you with them!

Nasca Lines

I hope that you are able to click on photo and enlarge to a point where the lines are more definitive.

Dining in Lima

By now you are probably saying what else did you do while in Lima????

PanAmerican Highway

This is the PanAmerican Highway between Lima and the Nacsa Lines. In many places the Highway is not well maintained and rough surfaced. Nothing like I expected.

The Highway improves upon getting close to Lima City limits.

Lima City Market

Typical City Market scene in the poultry section.
Fernando [S-I-L] inspecting a leg of lamb.
Typical example of excellent cusine available in moderate priced, but high lined restaurants.

In a Lima, Peru city marketplace illustrates what is possible from "raw materials"
Fernando [S-I-L] inspecting a leg of Lamb.
OK, maybe I exagerate a little, the finished produst was at a very nice restaurant, nut was typical of some of the great cusine available in Lima.

Money Exchange

In Peru, The "money exchange" facilities are very open and more convienent than even a US bank
drive-up automatic teller machine. For the most part, the rate is very competitive with the established money center banks.

First thing one learns is that "banks" offer different Exchange rates that can be significantly better than the traditional money center banks. It is amazing and mind boggling to visualize the amount of US Dollars circulating in these foreign markets.

Peru Pictures

I must apologize that I have not posted pictures from Lima and Nasca Lines. There has been no urgency on my part, but will now try generate some ambition. By the way, It has come to my attention that folks that log on to my "blog" stop after viewing the pictures that open when logging in? One must "click on" "older posts" to view prior postings. I have one or two other "blogs" from prior trips, should their be any interest. Just let me know.

Sorry that I have been unable to "post" the important photos taken while in Peru in February. Nada, Lorelle, Fernando and I spent 10 days touring. We visited the Nasca Lines, Paracas to the South of Lima, Trujillo to the North, and of course Lima. We missed the problems that encompassed those who travelled to Machu-Pichu. I have been to Machu-Pichu two times previous, and it was not on our schedule. We almost scheduled it, as Nada, Lorelle and Fernando have not been.
Some computer problems here in Bogota have limited my ability to post to the blog. Nada and I will be back to the USA next week [Feb 17th] after an absense of 90 days! That assumes the immigration folks at Hartsfield Airport in Atlanta let me in?
Hopefully, I will then be able to "post" a few photos to give you a "flavor" of life in and around Peru, SA.
Best wishes, Bob

Making the approach

Making the approach to Bogota.

This is not the Co-pilot.

Once we arrived in Girardot, we met up with another Friend of Alvaro. He has a pristine vintage 1958 PA18 Piper Cub. He was from the Bogota Air Club as well. Grandson David decided to leave the comfort of Alvaro's plane for the return trip. David is 13 years old and is up for any thing that offers excitement or percieved excitement. This gentlemen is a stunt pilot as well, as this plane is set up for such action.

Pilot and David.

I am not an expert on this technical stuff, but, I am told this planes control panel is not the typical 1958 Piper control panel. This convinved me!
David landing back in Bogota and parking. David did comment that it was cold in the thin air without his sweatshirt.
