Merry Christmas & Happy New Year 2010

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR -2010 TO ALL FAMILY AND FRIENDS ! From the Green's and Correa's.

This will be the last blog post until after The New Year. Nathan and Jackie Green willl be joining us in Colombia on December 30 for New Year' s and a few days. We will be in Annapoima, where there is no internet service, other than a public kioski. I will however be taking some photos, and when back to Bogota, be publishing again.

In January, 2010, We are headed for Lima, Peru. A visit with our dear friend Nelly Tratner, and then see some Peru sights like a fly-over of the Nazca Lines in Nazca and Paracas, Ballestas Island, Trujillo's and Chiclayo's ancient pyramids of the Sun and Moon, Colonial mansions and Cathederals, then Chan Chan City, the biggest earthen ware city in the world!

Stay tuned !!

Not another Horse Show?

Yes, one more time. This was staged on a friend of Fernando's just outside of Bogota. It was a "private sale" which allows owners to invite guests for lunch and refreshments, and display their horses [Paso Fino].
These two horses are Fernando's, and arte ridden by Edgar, a professional show rider that competes in major events. No sale today however, but there was plenty of barbeque and scotch !!!

Medi-Care ?

Nothing serious here! Grandson David is under some care for a knee injury, because he is super active and likes jumping from high elevations? Nada on the other hand, just likes to stay current on the latest health topics and options, like liver cleanse? unknown toxins? In any case, they look like they are enjoying the time together!

Kid's School in Bogota

Thought you might be interested in where the Grandkids attend school at 9,000 feet altitude? For me, I am not sure the "brain'" is totally engaged, particularily after walking up several steps to the highest point?

The primary kids get a break with their activity and classes on the lowest level, Middle school at the mid-level and the high school at the uppermost level. This is looking down from the High School level. You can see the City of Bogota in the distance below.

No ! The horse was not being treated with a "shot of 25 year old Ambassador Scotch"It was for the Rider ! I am not sure who that was that took the picture? One thing that I forgot to mention, One riderless horse is equipped with a portable sound system, which constantly plays your local "Latina Top 50 Tunes". This is music the Pasofina horses love and seemingly understand and get "charged up"from and "dance". It was quite an experience !!!!

The party is nearly over, and time for "cementing" new friendships with a bowl of the Hot soup that has been cooking in the " big 30 gallon drums on the open fire. Maybe a cerveza or two for the trek home.

The soup is Sancocho. Prepared from bones, vegatibles, ears of corn, and lots of seasoning. It is terrific!

I alwys try to "compliment"the Chef ! Here he is, taking a break late in the evening, after doing everything from killing and butchering the Buffalo to roasting.

ON THE TRAIL

You think it is easy, for an ""olde Chrysler Retiree"to keep up with this "bunch of party pros"?

The Pick-up truck is for hauling the "refreshments". The stops are very frequent, resulting in making a couple of miles a three and one half trail ride.

Buffalo Head

Buffalo head is prominently displayed as an appreciative note!

Waitress-servers are "ready"for action.

If you don't like open fire prepared, there is a more traditional roasting.

The traditional Arepas are ready for serving.

LUNCH IS BEING SERVED !

Lunch is being prepared and it is Buffalo. I think Ted Turner would have been envious, as it was truly excellent!

These pictures were taken at the "warm-up"get acquainted phase.
For those of you that are ëxperts"in this sport ability, please do not be too critical of my "form"and posture. It's a bit difficult to "program"your mind to not want to "just hang on".
